2 Arrested for Importing Frozen Turkeys

Two Kano state-based traders, Siraju Adamu and Ali Musa, have been arrested by men of the Nigeria Customs Service for smuggling banned frozen turkey, second hand air-conditioners, refrigerators and hand bags as well other contrabands into the country.

 Both men were apprehended at the Customs check point along Jebba –Mokwa road in Niger state last weekend.

 According to officials of the Nigeria Customs Service in Minna, the accused persons were said to have concealed the 107 cartons of frozen turkey among other banned items like second hand refrigerators, air conditioners, bags and shoes as well motor spare parts.

 They however denied being smugglers saying that they are transporters who were hired to take the goods to a trader in Kano state.

 Customs Comptroller for zone B, Alhaji Ajiya Masaya, who confirmed the arrest and seizure of the smuggled goods, said the seized cartons of turkey could cost up to N1.1m while the value of other contrabands has not been determined
