Fagge, ASUU president asks members to insist on PhD holders for VC position

The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr. Nasir Fagge has decried the appointment of non PhD degree holders in some universities as Vice Chancellors stressing that the union would ensure the anomaly is corrected.

Fagge who dropped the bomb shell while commenting on the on going LASU crisis at an emergency congress of ASUU-LASU, said the embattled VC, Prof John Obafunwa did not have Masters or PhD when he emerged as VC of the institution in 2011.

The ASUU president warned that LASU may no longer benefit from the Needs Assessment Fund until laid down procedure are followed. In 2013, the university was allocated N3.6billion and the university management through the back door collected 50 per cent and the 2014 allocation is hanging because of non compliance with laid down rules.
